From 20 January 2025 work will start on the construction access junctions for Manydown. These two junctions are the first infrastructure works for Manydown and will allow construction vehicles to access the site to deliver the roads and pavements, community amenities including schools and parks and new homes.
Order of Works
The junction at Roman Way will be constructed first, once this is completed work will move to the second junction at Roman Road. Resurfacing works will require a full road closure and to minimise the traffic disruption, this work will be carried out overnight and a diversion will be put in place. We will share further details on our website and social media channels when the date is confirmed.
Public Right of Way (PROW) diversion
There will also be a temporary diversion to the footpath (PROW) at Roman Way for the duration of the works on this first junction. This is marked on the map below, this temporary diversion will only impact pedestrians.
How will this affect traffic?
Whilst we are working hard to minimise the impact, developing a new place like Manydown will inevitably cause some disruption to local communities during its construction. Traffic management will be in place for the duration of these works. This has been approved by Hampshire County Council (HCC) and will be coordinated with any other works in the area.
Our goal is to make sure that these works are managed to minimise the impact on residents and maintain the flow of traffic, keeping local roads safe and clean for residents. These measures will include:
- When lane closure is required, the traffic lights will be manually controlled during peak times.
- Providing wheel washing for vehicles leaving the site to minimise dirt and dust along construction traffic routes.
In the longer term, we understand that residents might be concerned about the volume of additional traffic, but we expect that once these junctions are in use and works are in full flow, construction traffic will add one additional journey for every 60 existing journeys.
- Giving clear route directions to construction traffic not to use local residential roads and to follow a one way route onto local main roads, entering and exiting the site via the A339 (Kingsclere Road).
- Installing right turn filter lanes at dedicated construction traffic access points, allowing traffic to pass any vehicles waiting to turn into the site.
