Looking to the future
Manydown will not just bring homes and facilities to Basingstoke; it will also provide years of employment opportunities to local people. Working with our partners, either directly with schools and colleges or through partners such as Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, the local enterprise partnership and educational charities, we will offer opportunities to get involved in the creation of Manydown and share information on the careers available in construction and place-making.
Building a place like Manydown offers many educational opportunities, from archaeology and ecology visits with younger children, like the one with Chiltern School last year, to work placements and career event talks with students who are closer to starting their working life. As work progresses at Manydown, there will be more opportunities for young people to visit the site and learn more about the experts it takes to build a place like Manydown.
We are already working with Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT) to make sure we enable as many of its students as possible to find out more about how their careers could develop through the delivery of Manydown. This month, Dave Trevelion, Head of Construction at BCoT, visited us on-site to look at practical ways we can work with him and his students.
Learning more about curriculums and learning goals is an important part of planning how we can work with young people to improve their knowledge of, and access to, careers. We are only at the beginning of this journey and keen to hear from local schools and youth groups to look at ways we can support their educational and career goals, so please get in touch if you think there are ways we can help.
