Talking to our neighbours
Joining Oakley and Deane Parish Council’s March meeting at Newfound was a great way to understand local residents’ questions about Manydown first-hand.
We were able to talk through the master developer approach to delivering Manydown, how the initial phases of housing will come alongside schools and roads and green spaces, such as the countryside park, and how Manydown will connect with Oakley. We were able to answer questions directly about the coppicing of vegetation on both sides of the road between Worting and Oakley. We explained how this was important to allow us to prepare for future highway changes to create the new permanent junctions to Manydown and that this work was subject to seasonal ecological constraints.
There were many questions about traffic, how we would manage necessary disturbances during construction and the wider impacts additional homes and residents will have on roads. Residents were able to share their thoughts on the importance of protecting the character of Oakley and information on local resources such as health centres and schools.
Attending meetings like this is an important way of working with local communities: making sure people know how to get in touch with us and giving us a chance to answer questions, share information on the next steps and keep residents up to date with planned works.
If you are part of a local group we are yet to speak to; please get in touch with us so we can arrange to meet.
